OREGON ROUTE 4

The family adventure

For who is this route?
This route is for families or groups of friends because everybody will find something to do.

-Day 1
This trip in Oregon starts in the north of the state on the coast. Spend some time in Astoria. Several movies are filmed here. Think about Free Willy, Goonies and Kindergarten Cop. You can also visit Fort Clatsop and see how Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and their Corps of Discovery survived the winter of 1805-1806. Stay in Seaside, a family friendly town right on the beach.

-Day 2
You are driving south today. Your first stop is at the Tillamook Cheese Factory to watch the cheese production and have some ice cream. Don’t forget to check the Tillamook Forest Interpretive Center and Tillamook Air Museum. Shopping is wonderful in this area. You can shop tax-free at the Tanger Outlet Center. The beaches of Lincoln City are made for kite-flying. Every member of the family can find something they love to do on this second day!

-Day 3
Today you could make a special ocean cruise. Depoe Bay and Newport love to welcome you on one of their cruises. If you look good you might spot some whales! There are some more attractions why Ripley’s is popular. You can visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Hatfield Marine Science Center or other attractions. Visit the sea lions cave or take a short hike up to Heceta Head Lighthouse. You will spend the night in Florence.

-Day 4
This day starts spectacular. Make a dune buggy ride in this huge ‘sand box’  between Florence and North Bend. The Oregon Connection in Coos Bay offers free self guided tours of the myrtlewood factory and mill in the store. Just south of Bandon-by-the-sea, the West Coast Game Safari Park will delight you and your whole family. Enjoy the miles of beaches and ride the jet boats on the majestic Rogue River.
