SANIBEL ISLAND : Sansibel Island.

The island

Just offshore of Fort Myers you will find Sanibel Island. The island is almost 6000 years old and has a small population. The nature is pure and beautiful, you could say it’s a sort of tropical island. The island is very different from other places and islands in Florida.
The island is a barrier island. That’s one of the reasons that there is a high amount of shells on the beaches. You can find the most special shells on the beach. Pure nature!

There is also a wildlife reserve on Sanibel Island. It’s called the J.N. Ding Darling. You can visit the website of J.N. Ding Darling for all the information about the park and all the opening hours. This park is actually really special. You will find a lot of different bird populations here and you will find the biggest underdeveloped ecosystem of the US in this park.

Things to do on Sanibel Island

If you like fishing this is the place to be. You can catch great big fish on Sanibel Island. For more information about fishing spots and where you can get your fishing gear visit the visitor center in Fort Myers. But there are a lot of other things to do on the island! You could lay on the beach for a day or do something active and do some different water sports. You could also go ‘shelling’. With a guide you will go looking for special shells. You can do this on the Lighthouse Beach on Sanibel Island. When you do this tour you will think of Sanibel Island like heaven on earth because you will go snorkling in the light blue sea so you can find even more special shells.

We recommend to make a day trip to this special island. It will be a day of relaxing and enjoying the nice beaches and nature.
