About Historic Deepwood Estate

In Salem, the capital city of Oregon, you can visit the Historic Deepwood Estate. This is a 4 hectares  estate with different gardens and trails in the middle of the nature. The estate is located in the heart of Salem so paying it a visit is easy when you are close to Salem. Queen Anne called this estate her home in 1894. The Historic Deepwood Estate is placed on the national historic houses list in 1973.

Since 1930 the team of Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryuver constructed all the gardens with love. Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryuver  were the first female landscape architects of the local architectsbureau. Until 1968 the owner Alice Bretherton Brown Powel  took care of the estate with a lot of passion. Since 1971 volunteers and the community take care of the estate and al the gardens are being renovated. The renovation is almost done and the estate will be return in full glory.

The different gardens are olmost everyday opened from sunrise till sunset. Adults pay $6 per person and children under 6 years don’t have to pay to visit the estate. Every hour there is a tour in the estate. You can visit the webstie of Historic Deepwood Estate for the openinghours.


 Campground near the estate

There is a campground near to the estate. The campground is called Hee Hee Illahee RV resort. This RV resort is located 2 miles away from the estate. There are all kinds of facilities like free Wifi, playground, small indoor jacuzzi, pool, washing machines, toilets and showers. Every campsite has a patio where you can relax.
