Salem is the capital city of the state Oregon since 1851. The name is derivative of the Hebrew word sjalom what means peace.
Salem is known as a city of officials but is also known as the cherrytown because of the cherryfestival that is helt in the city. The first cherryfestival was in 1903.
Things to do in Salem
If you are in Salem you should visit the Historic Deepwood Estate. This is a estate with 4 acres of land and beautiful gardens. The Deepwood Estate is located in the middle of Salem so this is a place of peace and relaxation.
The Hallie Ford Artmuseum is also worth a visit. The collection consists out of historical and modern art and you can find a lot of regional art. But if you are travelling with kids you should visit the A.C. Gilberts Discovery Village. This is a non-profit museum for children where children can do all kinds of indoor and outdoor activities and they will learn a lot of it.
There are a couple of parks in and near Salem and one of them is the Silver Falls State Park. This is the biggest state park in Oregon en is known for it’s Trail of Ten Falls, the different waterfalls, the small and the big routes make this state park a great place to spend the day.
